The ride's exterior.

The Amazing Ride of Gumball is a 3D interactive shooting dark ride attraction at IMG Worlds of Adventure, which opened on August 31st, 2016.[1]

Premise

In the ride, Gumball and Darwin's science project for the school science fair, the Domination Station, has gone out of control and is bringing the objects in Elmore to life. Participants must zap the objects in order to get points and compete with other parkgoers to get the highest score.[2]

Ride experience

Guests enter the queue through an exterior built to resemble Elmore Junior High. The queue weaves through the hallways of the school, as various science projects built by the students are on display. The queue eventually leads into a small room with a large screen in the center, where a pre-show video is shown to guests describing the premise of the ride. After this, guests are led to the loading area and board blue ride vehicles with laser pointers that seat two guests per row for a total of four per ride vehicle. The vehicles depart the loading area and proceed to enter the Watterson house, where Richard is lazily watching television. He says he is too lazy to change the channel, so Gumball offers to give him the remote. Unfortunately, by doing so he brings the robots in Richard's TV show to life. Guests are instructed to shoot at the robots as they appear on screen and throughout the room.

The scene then transitions to the kitchen, where Nicole tells the boys she's off to watch her favorite ghost show, "Elmore's Most Haunted." After she leaves, the television in the kitchen shoots out vegetables the guests are told to shoot. Afterwards, the ride vehicles go through Nicole and Richard's bedroom where Gumball instructs guests to shoot at the ghosts. While shooting at the ghosts on the wall, Anais screams for help, causing both the brothers and the ride vehicles to go after her. Next, the ride vehicles go to the children's room, where Anais is being attacked by various Daisy clones. She tells Gumball and Darwin to "stop zapping her donkeys," before changing her mind and telling the guests to shoot them. She tells them the original Domination Station is the source of the problem, so Gumball, Darwin, and the ride vehicles are whisked into the next scene, which is Elmore Junior High.

At school, Gumball tells the guests to shoot ants, which were part of a documentary about bugs they were supposed to watch in Science class. As guests are shooting at the ants, Clayton tells Gumball and Darwin that Penny was bringing the Domination Station back to the Watterson house so Gumball wouldn't lose it. Guests are then brought to the streets of Elmore, where the Banana family is under attack by football players. While the guests are zapping the football players, Gumball and Darwin search for Penny. Eventually, they find her on the porch of the Robinsons' house, where the Domination Station proceeds to throw all of the previous targets at the duo to dispose of them. Guests are instructed by Gumball to shoot it, which proceeds to destroy it and fix the problem.

Before returning to the loading area, guests are given a preview of their photo on the ride, which is accompanied by their top score on the attraction. Richard calls the riders' attention to the screen, where he asks who the people and scores on screen are. Guests then disembark the ride and are funneled into the accompanying gift shop, "The Amazing World of Gumball: The Store."

Trivia

  • Information regarding its existence was revealed on Jacob Hopkins' IMDb resume [3], which also revealed Agent Gumball.
  • It is possible that the premise of the ride was based on "The World."
  • Instrumental versions of "Your Life Doesn't Count" and "Stalker Song" play during the living room and children's room portions of the ride respectively.
  • Several of the enemies from Mutant Fridge Mayhem appear as targets during Nicole's segment of the ride.
  • Despite reprising their roles as their respective characters, the ride employs several unidentified actors to voice Gumball, Darwin, Richard, Anais, Clayton, and Principal Brown in scenes not taking place on screens.
    • The preshow has an unidentified voice actor playing Principal Brown instead of Steve Furst, his usual voice actor.
  • The fourth wall is broken twice in the ride:
    • Gumball asks why people are no longer interested in "shows about a boy and his loveable animal sidekick," referencing the basic premise of the show.
    • At the end of the attraction in the Wattersons' living room, Richard asks who the people in the ride photos are and what the scores mean.

Goofs/errors

  • Penny appears in Miss Simian's classroom despite Clayton mentioning she went to the Watterson house.
  • The ride features a mix of season one, two, and three designs. The 2D character cutouts mainly consist of designs from season one, with a sculpted Tina model being her season one design. Penny's shelled design from Season 2 appears both as a cutout and a character on screens. The round-eyed Watterson designs from season three appear on screens throughout the attraction.
  • Several scenes, most notably the scene at the Bananas' house, appear unrendered and are missing key details to make the scene look more polished.
