These are the relationships Richard has with the other characters in the series.

Family

Gumball

Richard loves Gumball very much, although he is not exactly a competent parent.

Richard loves his son, mainly because he can relate to him in many ways. He often teaches him odd ways to deal with bullies, and treats him more as a brother or a close friend than a son. Despite his questionable parenting, he still clearly loves Gumball, and does feel hurt when Gumball insults him.

Darwin

Richard, along with family, tries to make Darwin connect with his fish roots.

Richard cares greatly for Darwin. In "The Goons" he lets it slip that Darwin is apparently his favorite of his children. He then immediately tries to cover this up by saying he is simply his "favorite fish." In "The Cycle", in an attempt to insult Darwin, he asks him how it feels to evolve beyond anything his species could ever have dreamed of, before referring to him as the disgustingly adorable pride and joy of his life.

Anais

The difference in Anais and Richard's intellect can cause disputes sometimes, but they generally get on extremely well.

Richard loves his daughter of course, but often butts heads with her intellect. On the advent of Anais attempting to be dumb for a day, she replaced Gumball from the dumb trio, thus becoming Richard's second favorite child. Despite Anais having to clear things up or voice her opinions, Richard was willing to even get a job to help his "little girl." In "The Cycle," he states that he genuinely believes that she is "better than everybody else."

Nicole

Richard and Nicole's opposite personalities sometimes lead to conflict, but they are ultimately a very loving couple.

Richard loves his wife, just as much as he fears her. He did not have much courage when they were younger so obviously Nicole pulled most of the moves. But he still loves his wife, mainly because she was one of the only people who approved of him. He even admits in "The Fury" that his wife could do better than him and this is restated by Gumball in "The Lady" where Gumball says Richard feels Nicole is out of his league. He even refers to her as his queen in "The Routine." He is shown to desire her approval as well, as shown in "The Deal" where he works hard to get her to recognize his efforts as a stay at home dad. Their relationship and how it developed was shown in "The Choices" where he met Nicole on her way to a karate tournament. She helped him out of a log he was stuck in, making her late for the tournament. As Nicole becomes disheartened, he asks why she feels she needs to go. When she says she wants to win and get people to like her, he answers there are already people who like her and then blush. The two subsequently date in their teen and adult years and Richard ends up being kicked out of his house by his mother because of their relationship. The two subsequently moved to a small apartment. When Nicole became pregnant, the two married leading to their current lifestyle.

Granny Jojo

Richard and Jojo have a very loving relationship, although Jojo does not always show it.

Obviously, Richard loves his mother very much. Though in "The Kiss," he and Nicole flee from her at first, in "The Man," he with his whole family celebrate her 63^rd birthday with her. He even describes how amazing she is alphabetically. In the same episode, he is shown to be very protective and attached to her, forbidding her from seeing her boyfriend, Louie. Richard revealed that he did this because his father had left them. He was afraid that his mother would like Louie more than him and he would lose her too. In response to this, his mother comforts him and shows that she cares about him too.

Louie

Despite a very rocky start, Richard has come to accept Louie as his step-father.

Richard did not interact much with Louie before the events of "The Man," but when he does in the mentioned episode, he establishes a major relationship with him. At first though, Richard was afraid that he might lose his dad Frankie, his mother would like Louie better than him, and his mother will cheat on Frankie with Louie, which he doesn’t know she and Frankie divorced until the end of the episode, which he shows his jealousy to him. Therefore, he treated Louie unpleasantly. After a man-off, Richard stops his mean treatment, and even accepts Louie as his dad.

In "The Signature", he tricks Louie into writing his name on an adoption paper so he could adopt him as his son and prevent him and his mother from getting married, but this too is resolved by the end of the episode.

Frankie

Richard and Frankie love each other, although Frankie's lifestyle has made it hard for them to get to know one another.

Richard's biological father left him and his mother when Richard was five years old, because he was on the run from the police. In "The Man" as Joanna is forbidden by Richard to see Louie, because he didn’t want to lose Frankie, even when he found out he abandoned them. After Frankie finally returns, he scams Richard into giving him possession of his house. Eventually, he regrets having hurt Richard and his family when he recalls the day he walked out on Richard and Joanna. While Granny Jojo may not think so favorably of Frankie, Richard still loves him, and he even asks him to reunite with him. Bizarrely, in "Ancestor Act," he appears to be aware that the "Vermin Man Day" holiday shown in "The Father" is about Frankie and is intended to remind him that he walked out on the family. This is in stark contrast to him being completely unaware of the holiday's relation to Frankie in "The Father," as well as going against his reconciliation with his father in said episode.

Friends

Van Shopkeeper

The first time Richard met the van shopkeeper, and he got Darwin from the awesome store.

In The Origin, it shows that Richard and the Van Shopkeeper the first time they met. After that, Richard always buy stuff from him. In The Puppy, Richard got "a puppy" from him. Richard said that he is a nice man. The Van Shopkeeper even fix his car as well. Richard became really sad when he couldn't find the awesome store and when the van gets destroyed. In The Console, Gumball even recognize that Richard bought the console from the back at the van, as he called "The Awesome Store". It shows that Richard really love buying stuff from that van.

Maria, Marvin (Violet), and George (Angela)

The men continue their deep friendship (as women).

Richard disguise as a woman (as Samantha) and made friends with other women, as shown in "The Lady." But Gumball and Darwin thought that Samantha is Richard's new "girlfriend." Eventually, they realize that Richard and Samantha arethe same person.

Richard was a lonely house-husband who had nothing to do to pass the time while his wife was at work and his children attended school. He had attempted to make friends with another man through going to a football game; however, his lack of knowledge about sports and how they are basically played is so absurd that the crowd falls silent and he is kicked out of the stadium. Richard even tried helping a mechanic fix a car, but hands him the jack that was being used to lift the car. Before the mechanic has time to process what was given to him, the front end of the vehicle crushes the mechanic, much to Richard's shock. Lastly, he tries to join in a basketball game with other players, but runs the other way upon emerging feelings of shyness at the last minute.

Richard begins to feel that he does not feel like a man, nor is he good at being one, but when he saw the women, he envied how carefree they were, hence the leporine sought out to become a woman in hopes of improving his social life. Richard reassures the boys that he did what was right and thanks the women for being his friends. Before he leaves, the women reveal their own secrets: they were already men (except for Maria).

The men decide to hang out as women and pretend this situation never happened, the men continue their deep friendship (as women).

Cowboy

As shown in "The Slip," Richard is a frequenter of the cowboy’s restaurant, Diagnosis Burger, to the point that the two even vacation together.

Enemies

Mr. Robinson

Unlike his sons, Richard cannot stand Mr. Robinson.

Richard has shown much confrontation with Mr. Robinson in the show, such as in "The Poltergeist" when Gaylord cuts his two dollar clip-on tie, or in "The Wand" when Richard fights him using Wanda. The most important role this rivalry played was in "The Tag," when they fight over a trash can throughout the episode.

Harold

Harold's constant mockery makes Richard very uncomfortable.

Mr. Wilson has been picking on Richard for most of his life, ever since he humiliated Richard with a high school prank. Throughout "The Cycle," this torment merely worsens, with Harold mocking Richard throughout everything he does. However, they seem to resolve their feud at the end of the episode, when Richard gives Harold advice on how to blow up his house, earning his respect.

Mr. Gruber

Mr. Gruber is the closest thing the usually passive Richard has to an arch-enemy.

Richard and Mr. Gruber develop a rivalry in "The Slip" after Richard is late answering the door when Mr. Gruber had a package for him. This meant that Gruber refuses to give the package to Richard unless he picks it up at the depot or pays the ten dollar delivery fee. Richard, not wanting to do either, lies to the post office (on Gumball's advice) and tells them that Gruber did not ring the bell, which would force the deliveryman to return and deliver the package for free. Gruber discovers the lie but agrees to deliver the package twice more, but both times Gruber tricks Richard into not being at his house for the deliveries.

However, Gruber allows Richard one more chance, leaving his package at the mall, forcing Richard and his sons to race there in order to get it. The three are late, but Gruber allows them another chance, placing the package in the museum. The Wattersons are late there, too, but Gruber again gives him another chance, leading to a cycle of the Wattersons being late for their package and Gruber moving it. Richard finally reaches him, but Gruber takes the package to the depot. However, Richard simply orders the same item again, and Gruber is forced to deliver it to him, much to his frustration.
